Known for its rich history, cultural heritage, and natural beauty—both inland and along the coast—Petchaburi offers a harmonious blend of historical landmarks and scenic landscapes. Its serene atmosphere makes it an ideal destination for travellers seeking relaxation, wellness, and a deeper connection with nature.
The province has a deep connection with Thai royal history, with sites such as Phra Nakhon Khiri, a hilltop palace complex that once served as a summer retreat for King Rama IV, and Marukhathaiyawan Palace, a beautiful teakwood structure by the sea built during the reign of King Rama VI. Petchaburi is also home to striking and unique temples, including the elegant Wat Mahathat in the old town and Wat Khao Luang, a small temple set inside a limestone cave.

Mindful travellers will appreciate a visit to Kaeng Krachan National Park, Thailand’s largest national park, where diverse wildlife, forest trails, and peaceful reservoirs offer a true retreat into nature. There are plenty of eco-homestays near the national park. Most of them offer activities such as river rafting, simple cooking classes and reforestation.
Just 45 minutes from Petchaburi town lies Hua Hin, a coastal town celebrated for its wellness offerings. Here, luxury beach resorts and wellness spas provide detox programs, healing therapies, yoga, and meditation retreats—perfect for those in search of balance and rejuvenation. Hua Hin is also a popular spot for water sports such as kite surfing, windsurfing, wing foiling, and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). These sports require physical strength as well as full focus, making them perfect for practicing mindfulness. A unique activity here is horse riding on the beach—Hua Hin is the only beach in Thailand where you can enjoy this experience.

Not far from Hua Hin is another natural gem: Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park—literally “Mountain of Three Hundred Peaks.” This dramatic limestone range runs along the Gulf of Thailand, with its highest peak reaching 605 meters above sea level. The park’s northwestern corner, Thung Sam Roi Yot, features expansive freshwater marshes, making it the largest wetland area in the country.

Highlights of the park include the iconic Phraya Nakhon Cave, with its hidden royal pavilion and sunlit chamber, as well as Kaeo Cave, tranquil beaches, mangrove forests, limestone islands, and scenic viewpoints. It’s a destination where hiking, wildlife spotting, and quiet reflection come together in a truly unforgettable natural setting.
While Hua Hin and Petchaburi offer plenty of activities, when I visit with my family, we tend to take things slow—starting our day with a peaceful morning walk along the beach or a visit to local market, enjoying fresh seafood for lunch, and winding down with a traditional Thai or oil massage.
